Judging by that article and their past update to the NIV, when my current NIV(either 1978 or 1984 version) is worn (YAY for duct tape…havent had to use it but will do when needed!) and I am forced to update I will not be purchasing a NIV or revised NIV. I already use several translations during my studies to help ensure that I am getting a correct translation. I use KJV - Greek and Hebrew Study, NLT, NKJV, The Message, and my NIV - Life Application Study Bible. I have found what I felt were desensitizing wording in my NIV when comparing to KJV but for the most part I have no issues doing my daily readings from NIV.
TNIV that is currently out, I do not care to read because of the gender issue and I will not purchase anything else NIV related because I do not have the $$$ and time to waste to ensure that it is okay and did their best to translate it as close to the Hebrew and Greek as possible…not from KJV. Which is hard to do because from what I have found/heard, the KJV has issues when compared to the Hebrew and Greek translations. Simply because 1 english word might mean 3 different things in Hebrew and Greek based off the way it is used.
In a day and age when the gospel is being tainted, Jesus is preached as just a way and not the way, I do not trust just anyone to translate the Living Word of God or sitting under random peoples preaching to me. In fact I have more comfort going backwards to help ensure the translation is of God and not an update version to obtain new sales…business.
My question is why retranslate NIV, isn’t there already enough translations out there. KJV, NKJV, NLT, ESV, NIV, TNIV, God’s Word Translation, Amplified, The Message, Catholic, New American Bible, NASB, The Living Bible, New World Translation(used mainly by Jehovah’s witness - which I am fairly certian I have seen in Family Christian Bookstores…CRAZY, Contemporary English Version, New Century Version, 21st Century KJV, American Standard Version, and I am sure there are more…why? What reason is there to retranslate the NIV?
I guess simply the more man touches the Living Word of God, I cannot help but to wonder if they are pushing their views or beliefs to get their agenda across…professors do it in college why wouldn’t bible translation teams do it.
I do not know…these are just my thoughts.
