7 things the Lord hates, fix your eyes on Jesus!

Proverbs 6:16-19

There are six things the LORD hates,
seven that are detestable to him:

1) haughty eyes
2) a lying tongue
3) hands that shed innocent blood
4) a heart that devises wicked schemes
5) feet that are quick to rush into evil
6) a false witness who pours out lies
7) a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

So we know that God hates these same 7 things today just as He did back in the day!

1) Haughty Eyes - The meaning of the word haughty is simply, prideful. Initially I thought how does one have proud eyes, then it hit me…it is simply judging those I see as less than myself. Seeing a homeless man as beneath me when in reality we are equals…sinners that Jesus Christ died on the Cross so that he and I might have eternal life in Heaven with Christ! It is seeing yourself better than someone else.

2) a lying tongue - well we all know what a lie is so there is no reason to define it. This however, includes the little white lies, like you look absolutely wonderful in that dress when you know it looks awful…you just do not want to hurt someones feelings. Or simply not telling all of the truth so it doesn’t make you look as bad. Those are just as wrong as flat out lies.

3) hands that shed innocent blood - well we all know right off the bat murder is sin and wrong! Though I agree with the teachings that this includes the slaughtering of millions of unborn babies every year! ABORTION! I also agree with the teachings that say that if vote in ANYONE who agrees and supports such sin we are just as guilty as the physician who is taking the life. I personally believe that if a product, like Kodak (just an example), were using children in their manufacturing plants people in America would have a cow and protest the product and contact the embassy in America trying to get labor laws changed in their country! Yet we support abortion directly or indirectly by the people we elect to represent us!

4) a heart that devises wicked schemes - I am assuming this is people who think of ways to rob, rape, murder, slander other people. I wonder if this would also also include people who look forward to getting the latest gossip first to be able to spread first?

5) feet that are quick to rush into evil - I think this one is also self explanatory. This can be anything from gossip, to drunkenness, to whatever is not acceptable unto God. I feel like the reason God hates this so much is because people in this state are so cold unto God that they do not feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit anymore. They feel no remorse, sorry, or guilt for their actions. Though as much as He hates cold hearted people He detests luke-warm people more (Rev 3).

6) a false witness who pours out lies - I know there are people out there who are malicious and wicked but I cannot fathom how people can do this! To make up lies and rumors about a individual that ruins reputations, relationships, etc!

7) a man who stirs up dissension among brothers - these can be gossipers, liars, people who plot evil things…gossip is in my opinion the most common seen in the church, workplace, and in life. Here is the problem with gossip: 1) usually deals with miscommunication/misunderstanding between 2 parties. They go and tell their friends and family about what happen etc…and then a few weeks later they get their issues resolved but everyone they told still has preconceived ideas or judgments against someone that you no longer have issues with! This is also people who speak in such ways to start arguments among people or groups that hinder productivity in classes, churches, or anything else that the gospel is being represented. They shift the focus from Jesus to whatever and call it debating, a question, etc!

Now something interesting about the 7 things: As I was writing this I started noticing these are the EXACT things the Pharisee’s and Sadducee’s did when Jesus was alive! They were the Religious experts of their days, the teachers of the law! These are the very men that should have recognized the signs of the times! To know that it was prophesied hundreds of years prior that the saviour, Jesus would be riding in on a donkey on that Day at that Hour! Though they still denied Him! Maybe that is why God finds these 7 things detestable! It is the very thing that His chosen people did to His only son! This also might be why Satan tempts us with it, to try and hurt God!

Praise God, that He sent Jesus who through Him allows Jew and Gentile in the Kingdom of God! Be aware of these things but do not try and change them yourself! You will FAIL! Instead tell Jesus, I am a liar, I supported men and woman who slaughter unborn babies, whatever it is…just tell Him. Tell Him how you feel and you understand it is not how He feels and ask Jesus to forgive you and remove them from your life. Seek Jesus with all your heart, soul, and mind! Seeking Jesus is the solution to EVERYTHING! The only way to successfully remove things from our lives is not for us to bind ourselves up in laws and burn ourselves out but instead seek Jesus and allow Him to make His heart our hearts, His desires become our desires, His loves is our loves, and His hates become our Hates!

Don’t allow Satan to use you! Don’t allow Satan to break you! The only way you can not allow Satan to use or break you is to seek Jesus and walk in the light! In this morning service my pastor spoke of the woman who touched the hem of Jesus garment and the Canaanite woman who came to Jesus to heal her daughter. I want to point out to you some things my pastor pointed out this morning.

By the law of Moses the woman with the bleeding issue was unclean and anyone who she touched or was around was unclean. They were exiled in a sense, not allowed to visit family, friends! She was beat down and broken, weak, tired and against all odds and opposition she pushed through the crowd and TOUCHED Jesus! She was weak and tired and she pushed through to Jesus! She had her eyes FIXED on Jesus! When Jesus asked, “Who touched me?” she stood up and admitted I did and explained her story regardless of the consequences that she faced for touching Him as a unclean woman.

The Canaanite woman was a Gentile, at that time Jesus was only ministering to the Jews. When she came to Him and asked Jesus to heal her daughter, Jesus ignored her! She didn’t quit she got louder and pushed more towards Jesus. Jesus replied to her and basically referred to her as a dog, being a non Jew. It didn’t discourage her, she didn’t get mad, she didn’t get angry, she didn’t get bitter, what did she do? She pressed on, she said, YES but even dogs eat crumbs from the masters table! Then Jesus was excited, joyful and said Woman you have GREAT FAITH! The closer she got to Jesus she cried out Jesus Help me! She pressed through even when Jesus didn’t receive her like she had hoped, she pressed through! Whats my point in saying this, simply fix your eyes on Jesus, forget about all the thorns in your sides, all the things you struggle with, and press through! No matter how dark, how bad, how far you feel away from God, PRESS through! Let Jesus change you!
